This email came to Ms. Brunette. Looks good.
Portland Youth Film Festival, a program run in cooperation with University of Southern Maine, invites your students to participate in our sixth annual Young Filmmakers’ Contest!
Students can enter films in the following categories:
- Short Film of 3 minutes or less incorporating the theme, “Something Unexpected”
- Documentary of 8 minutes or less on any subject.
For less experienced students and teachers, we have posted documentary filmmaking guidelines on our website with multiple examples and tutorials. We can also provide feedback on draft documentary footage submitted before February 1st. See the links below.

With a little structure and guidance, making a short film or documentary can be easy and fun for students and provide a lasting sense of pride and accomplishment!
The submission deadline is February 17, 2017. Selected films will be posted online and shown at the Festival on March 18, 2017. There is no entry fee.
I have attached a flyer that you can post in your community if you are interested.
Thank you,
Mark Shaughnessy, Contest Coordinator
